Good morning NoxiousOT,
There seems to be an increase in the amount of players that are being hacked lately, and I wanted to take the time to share some advice on how to properly protect your account from those mischievous hackers and give you the tools to recover your account if an unfortunate event like this happens.
Do not account share!
This is one of the quickest ways to have your account hacked and all of your belongings stolen. This is common sense. Meeting people on Tibia and trusting them is a very risky thing to do and the majority of the people that we meet on NoxiousOT are not close family members and are entirely dependent on trust when it comes to sharing items and accounts. Only you should have access to your account and this is the easiest way to prevent your account from being hacked.
Never EVER give out your account information to a player or staff member.
Although this doesn't happen often, a player "pretending" to be a staff member could try and message you telling you that you have won a competition or that you have been awarded premium points and they need to be deposited into your account in which you need to verify your account information before you can receive them. Premium points are automatically deposited into your account and nobody will ever ask for your account information, so please do not give it to anyone.
Do not use the same account information for other OT servers
A lot of players tend to use the same account information on each OT server that they play on because it is convenient not to have to remember all of your different accounts. This is also risky and your account on NoxiousOT should be unique and not repetitive of any other account that you have previously made. In addition, when logging into your account you should make sure that the website is legit.
The most common is "www.noxiousot.com"- although, there are some variations of the website (e.g. "www.ot.noxiousot.com" ), to be safe - always make sure that it is "www.noxiousot.com".
Never "trade" your entire account
I have seen multiple times players wanting to trade an account for tokens, points, or other items and instead of having it done correctly they write the account information down on a letter/parcel tag and trade it with the other person. There are ways that characters can be transferred correctly. In addition, a way to transfer characters without the presence of a GOD is currently being worked on, so please be patient and do not make any risky trades.
Register your account!
This is a VERY important thing to do. When registering, this should include a valid email address (not a random made up one) that you have access to. Once you have done this, you can request to have a recover key reset code that is detrimental to have if your account has been hacked or you lose access to it/forgot both your account name and account password. If you have not taken these preventative measure yet, I would recommend that you do so as having your account linked to your email will be very beneficial to you on future updates (hint-hint).
Update your virus protection regularly!
Updating your virus protection and running virus scans on a regular basis gives your computer and your NoxiousOT account the protection needed from any back-door trojans or viruses that can be picked up from downloaded programs or links that contain viruses. You should also never visit any links posted in-game unless you are absolutely sure of the source and the person that posted it. Even then, you should still take precautions.
Be careful where you play NoxiousOT
Playing NoxiousOT on public networks can be a security issue because you never know if the network is safe and if there are viruses installed on public computer.
What happens if my account has been hacked or I lose access to my account?
The first thing players do when they find out they have lost access is to try and contact a staff member. Staff members below the rank of "GOD" have no access to any accounts and thus will not be able to provide you with the information.
If you have forgotten your login information, the first step is to use the Lost Account Interface.
After you visit the Lost Account Interface, the first thing you will see is this screen:
Provide at least one of the characters (or main character) on the account to continue to the next step.
You will then find the option to select from the following options. Click on whichever applies to you:
By selecting "I have forgotten my password." or "I have forgotten my account name.", you will be brought to the following screens that will request that you provide the account email address (that you already provided when you created the account and hopefully still have access to, the account name, and a CAPTCHA code that verifies that the individual trying to recover the account is not a automatic system or robot.
If the information you have entered is correct, you should receive an automatic email from NoxiousOT that looks like this from "email@example.com":
Once you have your password reset code, you can then go back to the Lost Account Interface and select "I have a password recovery code". You will then be brought here:
When you receive an email containing a password reset code, you must enter it in the Password Reset Code box.
If you have tried all options and still are not able to recover your account, you may email firstname.lastname@example.org and provide all of the information that you can about your account including how you lost access to it and any emails that are associated with your account. If you are the original owner of the account and provide sufficient information, an administrator should be able to recover your account for you.
Here is a summary of what to do if these methods have not helped you in recovering your account.
If you have any questions regarding how to protect your account and what methods you can use, feel free to contact any of the staff online.
The best way to account security is making sure that you protect your account by following the aforementioned hints and that you have completely registered your account and update your information/change your password regularly.
